Rev. Tom Schafer
Pastor Emeritus
Pastor Tom Schafer has ministered 20 years (1995-2016) as Senior Pastor at the Lake of the Woods Church and currently serves as Emeritus Pastor since 2016. Two major building additions were added during this time. The church grew spiritually through adding worship hours, felt need programs, and new members.
Pastor Schafer holds a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary and a Master of Counseling from Ball State University. After taking the Commonwealth Professional counseling exam he was awarded the National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential. Pastor Schafer oversees and practices counseling WorthMore Counseling, Inc.. WorthMore Counseling is a faith-based non-profit housing six Christian practitioners.
Pastor Schafer is semi-retired. He enjoys teaching a Sunday School class, preaching, providing Memorial Services for beloved church members, and counseling.
Pastor Schafer met his beloved wife Joan while they were both students at Asbury Theological Seminary. They married in 1979 and have been in ministry together for 47 years. They have one daughter, Chelsea Schafer Suche. Chelsea has earned her M. Div and MSW and currently works as Director of Development for Friends of Barnabus, a free medical clinic in Honduras.
The Schafers have enjoyed international travel since their retirement.
