The LOW’n’BROWS German Band is returning to LOWC on Saturday, Oct. 29, for the second time (last performed here in Sept. 2008) to bring a taste of Oktoberfest with their own brand of music. Going strong after 20+ years, the LOW’n’BROWS Band is a group of musicians who gather each year at this time for a few weeks of fun and frivolity by playing a special kind of music around the Washington Metropolitan area. That music began in Europe and was widely popularized at a fall, harvest festival in Munich called OKTOBERFEST! The Band was formed by several musicians who were attending LOW Church in the late 1990s, and who were members of other bands and orchestras in the Fredericksburg/Orange County area.
The Band has a varied repertoire that consists of German standard polkas, waltzes, marches, Laendlers, Schottisches, and Plattlers; and has added in recent years other crowd favorites that include: “Sweet Caroline”, “Happy Wanderer”, “Edelweiss”, and last but not least, crowd participation rendition of the ultimate crowd-pleaser, the “Chicken Dance”
The LOW’n BROWS current members are Harold Pellegreen and Gary Schwartz on trumpets, Lonnie Paxton on trombone, Frank Yindra on Tuba, Dwight Collins and Kevin Paxton (Lonnie’s son!) on Clarinet, Karl Willuhn on the Accordion, and Charlie Bocook on Drums. Several of the members still support and participate in music events and services at LOW Church.
A Cookie Concerto Reception will follow the performance for meeting and greeting the Band. Please call The Lake of the Woods Church at 540-972-9060 for questions and directions.
