Be a superhero to a teen

Our teenagers depend on parent and youth leaders to support them and to provide the guidance and leadership they need.

A training class in working with teenagers will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, in the Founders Room for parents with teens or adults working in youth ministry.

The training, taught by Pastor Adam Colson and his wife Johanna, will cover the who, what, when, where, why and how to teen ministry, as well as behavioral management tips.

Here’s an outline of the topics that will be covered:

Opening Devotion: How to be the superhero your teens need

Session One: Who are these teenagers?

  1. Meet the post-modern teenager
  2. Age characteristics of teenagers

Session Two: What is God’s purpose for teenagers?

  1. Five God-given purposes
  2. What about closing the back door?

Session Three: Where can I effectively impact teens?

  1. Be with
  2. Going outide the walls
  3. Do’s and don’ts (Protecting the teens and your integrity)

Session Four: When to establish behavioral control

  1. Establishing behavioral structure
  2. Reinforcement
  3. Maintaining control of your group

Session Five: Why bother with teens?

  1. The need
  2. The call
  3. The team (Relationship building)

Lunch will be provided.
